The Schaleks - A Central European Family. A Century-long History in Five Live Stories

16/1/20 @ 14:00 - 15/3/20, 0 Foyer of the cinema in the Ghetto Museum

documentary exhibition of Deutsches Kulturforum östliches Europa

the ceremonial opening of the exhibition will take place on January 16th, 2020 at 2 P.M.

The Schaleks, a Czech-German Jewish family provides a graphic example of how history and individual human lives are intertwined. Alice Schalek, Robert Schalek, Malva Schalek, Fritz Schalek and Lisa Fittko all witnessed one century of Central European history. During certain stages of their lives they also wrote some of the annals of that history. In its dark periods, some of them demonstrated that despite all kinds of risks human beings can behave humanely and are prepared to stand up against evil.

The exhibition comes complete with a 9-minute documentary called The Schaleks. Between the Fronts (in German).
