Josef Miklik

15/6/23 @ 14:00 - 31/8/23, 0 Foyer of the cinema in the Small Fortress

Artistic - documentary exhibition with photos of Jan Sibik

Exhibition about the life of the Catholic monk Josef Miklík, a priest who experienced the last few months of the war in prison and in Terezín.

His story is connected with Richard Frankl, a doctor of Jewish origin from Dobříš, whom he prepared for baptism. When anti-Jewish measures came upon him and his family, Josef Miklík did not abandon his friends. For this he was arrested in October 1944 and imprisoned at first in Pankrác, later in Terezín's Small Fortress. May 1945 brought him freedom, in 1947 he was awarded the Czechoslovak War Cross. However, his health was already severely impaired by that time and he died in the same year. Richard Frankl died in Dachau, his wife and daughter were murdered in Auschwitz.

From June 15 to the end of August this year, we have prepared for you an exhibition of the same name (JOSEF MIKLÍK) about the life of this exceptional man, as well as about the life of Richard Frankl.

You will be guided through the story by Martin Kukal's illustrations and images of the Little Fortress, which come from the workshop of the leading Czech photographer Jan Šibík.
The exhibition will be on view in the foyer of the cinema in the Small Fortress Terezin.

On June 15 from 2 p.m., the opening of the exhibition will begin with the participation of the creators, including Jan Šibík, with an accompanying speech by actor Zdeněk Maryška. Singer Dorota Baarová from the group Vertigo will perform as musical accompaniment.
